Homeowner Association Board Members: Reasons to Celebrate

Board members can assess their success through various achievements, such as completed projects, improved financials, and solidified long-term plans. However, understanding residents' feelings can be challenging, even though their satisfaction and safety are primary objectives of the association. A nationwide survey conducted in 2014 by Public Opinion Strategies, commissioned by the Foundation for Community Association Research, offers insights that should boost board members' pride in their efforts.

Positive Resident Relationships

An impressive 64% of residents describe their relationship with the association as positive. This is the highest possible rating within the study framework, reflecting a significant level of satisfaction among community members.

Trust in Leadership

A substantial 90% of residents trust that board members act in the community's best interests. This statistic covers those who believe board members act with good intentions “absolutely” or “for the most part,” showcasing strong faith and goodwill towards the board.

Community Harmony

Promoting harmony among residents is a crucial role of the association, and 83% of residents report having good relationships with their closest neighbors. This data suggests that associations are succeeding in fostering a sense of community among residents.

Cordial Relations with Board Members

Maintaining a friendly yet compliant relationship with residents is a challenge for board members. Nonetheless, 92% of residents express friendliness towards their board, indicating successful management of this balance.

Positive Property Manager Interactions

Property managers play a critical role, often dealing with rule enforcement and conflict mediation. Achieving a positive resident experience in such situations is admirable, with 88% of those who have interacted directly with property managers reporting a favorable experience.

Enhancement of Property Values

A consistent 70% of residents feel that association rules contribute to increased property values. This sentiment has remained stable since 2005, illustrating residents' recognition of the association's essential role in maintaining and enhancing community value.

These statistics affirm the impactful work of association board members in creating positive environments, fostering trust, and enhancing property values within their communities.
